But this quiet city in the wooded Polissya region of northern Ukraine holds a stranger distinction too: hidden here is a seismic station, part of a global network that listens through the earth itself for the tremor of clandestine nuclear tests. Paper and seismographs, deep forest and deep history - Malyn is a place of unexpected layers, sitting on the banks of the Irsha River about a hundred kilometers northwest of Kyiv.]]></description>
